The Enteric and Sexually Transmitted Infections Branch (ESTIB) located within the Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (DMID) at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is seeking candidates for two program officer positions. ESTIB administers grant and contract support for basic research; early product discovery; clinical, behavioral, and epidemiological research; advanced product development; and clinical trials on bacterial enteric pathogens and STI pathogens (excluding HIV). Both program officer positions are located in the STI Section of the Branch. One position is for the administration of the Epidemiology, Social, and Behavioral Research and the Clinical Trials and Medical Interventions grant programs. The other is for the administration of the Therapeutics and Vaccine Development and Evaluation grant program.
Qualifications
Key preferred qualifications for the Epidemiology, Social, and Behavioral Research and the Clinical Trials and Medical Interventions program officer position include:
• Desired area(s) of expertise in clinical research or trials, epidemiology, and/or behavioral research (including vaccine uptake and hesitancy)
• Strong relationship building, communication, and management skills
• Demonstrated experience planning, organizing, and conducting basic and translational research
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
• Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines
Key preferred qualifications for the Therapeutics and Vaccine Development and Evaluation program officer position include:
• Desired area(s) of expertise in vaccine and/or therapeutic development, regulatory aspects of biomedical product development, and/or bacterial and viral pathogenesis
• Strong relationship building, communication, and management skills
• Demonstrated experience planning, organizing, and conducting basic and translational research
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
• Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines
