Ruth Y. Isenberg, PhD ’23, has been awarded the 2024 Nat L. Sternberg Thesis Prize. The international prize is awarded annually “for outstanding PhD work in the field of bacterial molecular biology.” In the prize’s 29-year history, Dr. Isenberg becomes the third UW-Madison recipient and the first recipient from a laboratory in the School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Isenberg is one of three recipients of the 2024 Sternberg Prize, sharing the award with Dr. Sydney Blattman, who obtained her PhD at Columbia University, and Dr. Zhongqing (Warren) Ren, who obtained his PhD at Indiana University. The prize was awarded on August 5, 2024, at the Molecular Genetics of Bacteria and Phages Meeting, in Madison. In addition to a cash prize, Dr. Isenberg was invited to present a her thesis research at the conference.
