As part of their training, MDTP students are required to complete one semester of teaching practicum during their second year in the program. A range of courses are available for teaching practicum opportunities – students may choose to teach in an area in which they feel they have expertise or they can use the teaching practicum as an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in something new.
Courses available for teaching practica vary from semester to semester, year to year. In general, there are lecture and lab courses, as well as undergrad and graduate level courses.
MDTP students who area very interested in teaching can pursue this as part of their professional development. An additional teaching practicum or coursework with the DELTA teaching program is a great way to develop teaching skills.
Note – students transferring into MDTP from the MSTP (MD/PhD) program are exempt from the MDTP teaching practicum requirement.
